One more thing, it was debunked that Will Smith was offered the role of Captain America, thankfully!

  2. What a great story about meeting George Lucas. I used to so admire the guy but now he just seems sad. I remember reading in the recent “Making of Star Wars” book how he considered himself retired from directing after the first SW movie and he was finally going to do the independent, artsy style movies he always wanted to do. Then he produces Indiana Jones, Willow, Labryinth, Howard the Duck and all those other extremely commercial movies and he comes out of directing retirement just to do more Star Warses.

I remember also after the prequels were finished when people asked him what he was going to do next, he said he was going to do the independent, artsy style movies he always wanted to do before Star Wars. And here we are all these years later and he’s reduced to pimping out Star Wars video games to strangers at parties. Did he ever get to realize his dream of creating and directing artsy stuff nobody liked?

On the DVD commentaries Lucas talks about when the world first saw Darth Vader he was this menacing enigma, but as the story unfolded people got to see that this seemingly all powerful evil monster was actually sort of pitiful and sad. And that’s how I see Lucas himself now. At first I was so impressed and overwhelmed by the guy, but after 30 years of watching him make this Star Wars crap up as he goes along and never getting around to anything close to artsy independence, he just seems pitiful and sad.

  3. i just had to hunt those old WWF episodes down after you spoke about them – but i don’t remember seeing them at time of original broadcast. the ‘steps into darkness’ are so over the top and unintentionally hilarious – one of the highlights of my personal favourite WWF period of 1991 – 1993 BD (before doink).
