Those Unicron slowdowns were really great. Talk about phoning it in. If all post production on his lines consisted of was slowing his performance down and adding a little flange then I don’t think he put much effort into it at all. Hell I could sound like Unicron if they did that to my voice. What happened to the Orson Welles who did that great Dark Tower game commercial and those wine commercials I remember so well? I don’t know if my voice acting heroes are people or the machines that process their voices.
Esteban, yeah, you or I could sound very close to Unicron simply by slowing down our speaking voices. I have to admit though, given his age and poor health at the time, I think Orson Welles did a good job delivering his lines. The fact that he even agreed to voice a Transformer is surprising to me.
The funny thing is, my only experience with Welles’s acting or movies is The Transformers: The Movie from 1986. I’ve never seen another one of his movies. I know I’m probably missing out, but the opportunity just never came up.
My voice acting heroes are definitely more people than machine: Frank Welker, Peter Cullen, Mel Blanc, et al. There was some slight processing on the Transformers’ voices, but when Welker and Cullen do Megatron and Optimus Prime’s voices candidly and raw, they sound very close to the final, produced versions.
I’ve been trying to imitate Megatron’s voice and I still have no idea how Welker gets that deep, gravelly, metallic sound!
He probably smokes coal dust wrapped in 30 grit sandpaper.
I’m the same with is other movies. I haven’t seen Citizen Kane because it’s the most spoiled movie ever. I don’t know if the story could have as much impact on me or I could appreciate the whole “Rosebud” reveal and still be shocked.
The Stranger, directed by and starring Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, and Loretta Young, is a really good movie. Welles plays a former Nazi hiding out in middle America somewhere, with Robinson searching for him.
Just watched your youtube video regarding Michael Jackson. I have to feel sorry for people like you that have nothing better to do than to make fun of one of the greatest human being that has ever graced this earth. Watch the video by Larry Nimmer – Michael Jackson: THE UNTOLD STORY OF NEVERLAND. or IF YOU KNOW HOW TO READ – Read the book by Aphrodite Jones – CONSPIRACY.
how is there anything not to like about cobra commander. he’s a human version of starscream brought to life by chris latta; a great visual design, and an over the top loveable / hateable character. i think skeletor provided the funniest put-downs to his henchman – i think he was almost aware he was in a cartoon.
