ah… james mccartney has been in the news over here this week; after an appearance on breakfast television. his interview was apparently so bad, public relations companies are already showing it to clients and agents as an example of how not to promote yourself. i went watching ‘star trek: into darkness’ on opening night and was again very entertained; i even overlooked the film having to crowbar in leonard nimoy. it was a perfect summer popcorn film. as i’ve mentioned previously, i’m a casual ‘star trek’ fan but i’m now old enough to not be so attached to the franchises of my childhood and don’t care any more about the changes made to them to attract wider audiences, and in this case it has done the trick – i hope they make more. i can see the fifth and final film (keeping track with the five-year mission) having khan and his 73 minions thawing out and causing carnage in a showdown with the crew. benedict cumberbatch has appeared from nowhere – i don’t watch much scripted british television any more. from what i can understand, cumberbatch and martin freeman played a contemporary sherlock holmes and dr. watson in the bbc’s ‘sherlock’. not for me. he looks like a mackerel anyway.
