i hated the stone cold steve austin character at the time and i tuned out at the advent of the ‘attitude’ era – not enough stupid gimmicks or costumes. why try to make wrestling edgy, gritty or realistic? but hey, it worked. just got back into watching old WCW / WWF shows and i regret tuning out as it is great nostalgic escapism. i’ve seen recent steve austin interviews and he actually seems like a humble guy with surprisingly liberal and easy going views on the modern world.
